Abstract

Parcel theft deterrence for audio/video (A/V) recording and communication devices, such as video doorbells and security cameras. When an A/V recording and communication device captures image data that includes a parcel, a parcel boundary may be created for monitoring the parcel within. In various embodiments, when the parcel is removed from the parcel boundary, a user alert may be generated to notify a user of a client device associated with the A/V recording and communication device that the parcel has been removed.

Claims

1. One or more network devices comprising:

one or more communication components;

one or more processors; and

one or more non-transitory computer-readable media storing instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the one or more network devices to perform operations comprising;

receiving, using the communication component(s), image data generated by an audio/video recording and communication device (A/V device);

determining, based at least in part on the image data, that a parcel has been delivered to a property; and

after determining that the parcel has been delivered to the property, transmitting, using the communication component(s), first data to the A/V device, the first data representing a command to operate in a package protection mode.

2. The network device(s) as recited in claim 1, the one or more non-transitory computer-readable media storing further instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the one or more network devices to perform further operations comprising:

determining that the property is unoccupied,

wherein transmitting the first data further occurs after determining that the property is unoccupied.

3. The network device(s) as recited in claim 1, the one or more non-transitory computer-readable media storing further instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the one or more network devices to perform further operations comprising:

determining that a security system associated with the property is operating in a mode,

wherein transmitting the first data further occurs after determining that the security system is operating in the mode.

4. The network device(s) as recited in claim 1, the one or more non-transitory computer-readable media storing further instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the one or more network devices to perform further operations comprising:

receiving, using the communication component(s), second data from a client device, the second data representing an instruction to place the A/V device in the package protection mode,

wherein transmitting the first data further occurs after receiving the second data.

The network device(s) as recited in claim 1, the one or more non-transitory computer-readable media storing further instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the one or more network devices to perform further operations comprising transmitting, using the communication component(s), second data to the A/V device, the second data representing one or more rules associated with the package protection mode, the one or more rules including at least one of:

a boundary associated with monitoring the parcel;

or

an action to be executed in response to the parcel being moved.

6. The network device(s) as recited in claim 1, wherein the package protection mode includes at least increasing a sensitivity associated with motion detection by the A/V device.

7. The network device(s) as recited in claim 1, wherein determining that the parcel has been delivered to the property includes at least one of:

determining that the image data represents the parcel;

or

receiving, using the communication component(s), second data indicating that the image data represents the parcel.

The network device(s) as recited in claim 1, the one or more non-transitory computer-readable media storing further instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the one or more network devices to perform further operations comprising transmitting, using the communication component(s), second data to the A/V device, the second data representing an additional command to disable the package protection mode.

9. A method comprising:

storing first data indicating that an audio/video recording and communication device (A/V device) is associated with a property;

determining that a parcel has been delivered to the property; and

after determining that the parcel has been delivered to the property, transmitting, to the A/V device, second data representing a command to operate in a package protection mode.

10. The method as recited in claim 9, further comprising:

receiving image data generated by the A/V device,

wherein determining that the parcel has been delivered to the property comprises determining that the image data represents the parcel.

11. The method as recited in claim 9, wherein determining that the parcel has been delivered to the property comprises receiving, from at least one of an electronic device or the A/V device, third data indicating that the parcel has been delivered to the property.

12. The method as recited in claim 9, further comprising:

determining that the property is unoccupied,

wherein transmitting the second data further occurs after determining that the property is unoccupied.

13. The method as recited in claim 9, further comprising:

determining that a security system associated with the property is operating in a mode,

wherein transmitting the second data further occurs after determining that the security system is operating in the mode.

14. The method as recited in claim 9, further comprising:

receiving, from a client device, third data representing an instruction to place the A/V device in the package protection mode,

wherein transmitting the second data further occurs after receiving the third data.

15. The method as recited in claim 9, further comprising transmitting, to the A/V device, third data representing one or more rules associated with the package protection mode, the one or more rules including at least one of:

a boundary associated with monitoring the parcel;

or

an action to be executed in response to the parcel being moved.

16. The method as recited in claim 9, wherein the package protection mode includes at least increasing a sensitivity associated with motion detection by the A/V device.

17. A method comprising:

receiving, by a client device, first data from a network device, the first data indicating that a parcel has been delivered;

displaying, by the client device, a notification indicating that the parcel has been delivered;

receiving, by the client device, an input representing a selection of one or more rules associated with a package protection mode for an audio/video recording and communication device (A/V device); and

after receiving the input, transmitting, by the client device, second data to the network device, the second data indicating the one or more rules associated with the package protection mode.

18. The method as recited in claim 17, further comprising:

receiving, by the client device, image data generated by the A/V device; and

displaying, by the client device, an image represented by the image data, the image representing the parcel,

wherein receiving the input representing the selection comprises receiving, by the client device, the input representing an indication of a boundary around the parcel, the one or more rules including at least the boundary.

19. The method as recited in claim 17, wherein receiving the input representing the selection comprises receiving, by the client device, the input representing an action to be executed in response to the parcel being moved, the one or more rules including at least the action.

20. The method as recited in claim 17, further comprising:

receiving, by the client device, image data generated by the A/V device;

displaying, by the client device, an image represented by the image data, the image representing the parcel;

receiving, by the client device, an additional input indicating that the parcel is located at the property; and

transmitting, by the client device, third data to the network device, the third data indicating that the parcel is located at the property.
