Abstract

A selected network element is arranged for distributed transmission resource allocation conflict reduction. The selected network element receives a transmission from one of a first other network element and a second other network element and identifies at least one transmission resource indicated by the received transmission as being reserved by the first other network element and the second other network element. The selected network element stores an indication of each of the at least one identified transmission resource. In response to reading the stored indications, the selected network element selects a different transmission resource that is different from the transmission resource indicated by the stored indications. The selected network element transmits a transmission from the selected network element using the selected different transmission resource.

Claims

1. A network element comprising:

a transceiver for receiving a received transmission from a first other network element or a second other network element; and

a processor coupled to the transceiver, the processor for;

identifying at least one transmission resource indicated by the received transmission as being reserved by the first other network element and the second other network element, for storing, in a storage of the network element, a stored indication of the at least one identified transmission resource; and

selecting different transmission resources for transmission by the network element, the selected different transmission resources being different from transmission resource indicated by the stored indication of the at least one identified transmission resource.

2. The network element of claim 1, wherein the at least one identified transmission resource is a cell list that includes at least one cell, wherein each included cell is associated with a unique timeslot and channel combination.

The network element of claim 2, wherein the received transmission is a transmission that includes a cell list of allocable cells negotiated between the first other network element and the second other network element, wherein the allocable cells are cells reserved for use by the first other network element and the second other network element.

4. The network element of claim 2, wherein the received transmission is transmitted by the first other network element in response to receiving a candidate cell list from the second other network element.

5. The network element of claim 4, wherein the network element is outside of a transmission range of the second other network element.

6. The network element of claim 2, wherein the received transmission is transmitted by the first other network element in response to receiving, from the second other network element, a cell list of allocable cells negotiated between the first other network element and the second other network element.

7. The network element of claim 6, wherein the cell list of allocable cells negotiated between the first other network element and the second other network element is transmitted from the second other network element in response to receiving, from the first other network element, a candidate cell list unreserved by the first other network element.

8. The network element of claim 6, wherein the network element is outside of a transmission range of the second other network element.

9. The network element of claim 2, wherein the received transmission is transmitted by the first other network element in a packet addressed to the network element.

10. The network element of claim 2, wherein the received transmission is transmitted by the first other network element in a packet addressed to the second other network element.

11. The network element of claim 2, wherein the received transmission is transmitted by the first other network element as a broadcast packet for reception by network elements in addition to the first other network element.

12. A network element, comprising:

a transceiver for receiving a received transmission from a first other network element or a second other network element; and

a processor coupled to the transceiver, the processor for;

determining whether the received transmission includes a scheduling command indicating a successful negotiation for mutually reserving at least one transmission resource between the first other network element and the second other network element;

storing in a storage of the network element an indication of the at least one reserved transmission resource; and

selecting different transmission resources for transmission by the network element, wherein the selected different transmission resources are different from the at least one stored reserved transmission resource.

13. The network element of claim 12, wherein at least one of the different transmission resources is a cell list that includes at least one cell, wherein each included cell is associated with a unique timeslot and channel combination.

14. The network element of claim 13, wherein the processor is for filtering MAC addresses of received network commands that are other than scheduling commands and for bypassing filtering the MAC addresses of network commands that include scheduling commands.

15. The network element of claim 14, wherein the processor is for selecting unreserved cells from a reservation system of the processor that includes the at least one stored reserved transmission resource, and wherein the transceiver is for transmitting packets from the apparatus using the selected unreserved cells.

The network element of claim 12, wherein the scheduling command included by the received transmission is transmitted by the first other network element in response to receiving, from the second other network element, a cell list of allocable cells negotiated between the first other network element and the second other network element.

17. The network element of claim 16, wherein the cell list of allocable cells negotiated between the first other network element and the second other network element is transmitted from the second other network element in response to receiving, from the first other network element, a candidate cell list unreserved by the first other network element.

18. A method, comprising:

receiving, by a transceiver of a selected network element, a received transmission from a first other network element or a second other network element;

identifying, by at least one processor of the selected network element, at least one transmission resource indicated by the received transmission as being reserved by the first other network element and the second other network element;

storing, by the at least one processor of the selected network element, in a storage of the selected network element, a stored indication of the at least one identified transmission resource;

selecting, by the at least one processor of the selected network element, a different transmission resource that is different from the transmission resource indicated by the stored indication of each of the at least one identified transmission resource; and

transmitting, by the transceiver of the selected network element, using the selected different transmission resource, a transmission.

19. The method of claim 18, wherein the at least one identified transmission resource is a cell list that includes at least one cell, wherein each included cell is associated with a unique timeslot and channel combination.

20. The method of claim 19, further comprising:

transmitting from the first other network element, to the second other network element, a first scheduling command that includes a candidate cell list unreserved by the first other network element;

transmitting from the second other network element, to the first other network element, a second scheduling command that includes a list of allocable cells that includes at least one allocable cell, wherein each allocable cell is allocated in response to the candidate cell list and in response to a reservation system of the second other network element that includes a list of cells unreserved by the second other network element; and

transmitting, from the first other network element, a third scheduling command that includes the cell list of allocable cells included by the second scheduling command.
