A DIGITAL ACCELEROMETER COMPRISING A FRAME, AN INERTIAL MASS, TUNING FORK MEANS COMPRISING ONE TINE CONNECTING SAID MASS TO SAID FRAME, AND CROSS-AXIS SUPPORT MEANS FOR SUPPORTING SAID MASS ON SAID FRAME IN A MANNER TO INTRODUCE NEGLIGIBLE RESISTANCE TO THE MOVEMENT OF THE MASS LONGITUDINALLY OF SAID TUNING FORK MEANS BUT TO RESIST OTHER MOVEMENT OF THE MASS, SAID INERTIAL MASS COMPRESSING SAID TUNING FORK MEANS IN RESPONSE TO LONGITUDINAL ACCELERATION IN ONE DIRECTION AND TENSIONING SAID TUNING FORK MEANS IN RESPONSE TO LONGITUDINAL ACCELERATION IN THE OTHER DIRECTION WHEREBY THE NATURAL FREQUENCY OF VIBRATION OF SAID TUNING FORK MEANS WILL BE DECREASED AND INCREASED TO PROVIDE AN INDICATION OF THE MAGNITUDE AND DIRECTION OF THE ACCELERATION, SAID TINE HAVING A LONGITUDINAL PORTION WITH TWO IDENTICAL BRANCH PORTIONS, EQUALLY SPACED FROM AND SUBSTANTIALLY SYMMETRICAL ABOUT SAID TINE AXIS FORMING A CLOSED LOOP.
