Abstract
Sound, particularly airborne sound, is attenuated using a microporous sheet of a resilient, normally solid polymeric material (e.g. polyethylene), which sheet has finely divided lead particles uniformly dispersed therein.

A sound attenuating barrier comprising a layer of construction material, and, adjacent said layer, a microporous sheet comprising a resilient normally solid polyolefin containing about 20 to 95 percent by weight of finely divided lead particles uniformly dispersed therein, said pores being interconnecting and having an average diameter in the range of about 0.01 to 1 microns and said sheet having a void volume in the range of about 30 to 70 percent.
