Abstract
CONTROLLED MOTION DEVICES ARE PROVIDED, WHICH MAY BE IN THE FORM OF A CONTROLLED CATHETER FOR USE IN THE BODY, HAVING AN ELONGATED FLEXIBLE TUBE MEMBER WITH A REAR END AND A CENTRAL AXIS. A FORWARD SECTION OF THE TUBE FORMS A CATHETER TIP AND CONTROL MEANS EXTEND THROUGH THE MEMBER FROM THE REAR AND TO THE TIP TO CAUSE BENDING OF THE TIP AT SELECTED ANGLES WITH RESPECT TO THE CENTRAL AXIS UPON SUITABLE ACTUATION. A CONTROL MECHANISM IS DESIGNED FOR USE IN CONTROLLING MOVEMENT OF THE CATHETER TIP. PREFERABLY THE CATHETER HAS A NON-CYLINDRICAL, VARYING DIAMETER ALONG ITS LENGTH AND CARRIES MEANS FOR RAPID CONNECTION WITH THE CONTROL MECHANISM.
