Abstract
Laminated window panels comprised of an assembly of rigid, transparent sheets bonded together by plastic interlayer material and utilizing fiber glass reinforced thermosetting resinous material in marginal areas of the panels outside their viewing area (1) as protection for electrical terminal blocks and lead wire connections, (2) as interlayer inserts for the prevention of delamination and/or cold chipping and for reinforcing the interlayer material, and (3) as edge frames or channeling disposed about the periphery of the panels for edge and interlayer protection.

3. In a laminated window panel comprising an assembly of rigid, transparent sheets bonded together by a plastic interlayer material and wherein at least one of said sheets provides an exterior surface of said panel, the improvement comprising a substantially rigid member composed of fiberglass impregnated with a cured thermosetting resin extending substantially parallel to and disposed in intimate conformity with an exterior marginal surface portion of said one of said rigid, transparent sheets and located outside a centrally disposed viewing area thereof.
-
4. A laminated window panel according to claim 3 wherein said substantially rigid member also extends across and in intimate conformity with at least a portion of the adjacent marginal edge surfaCe of said one of said rigid, transparent sheets.
-
5. A laminated window panel according to claim 4 wherein said substantially rigid member further extends substantially parallel to and in intimate conformity with a marginal surface portion of said one of said rigid, transparent sheets which is disposed opposite said exterior marginal surface portion thereof.
-
6. A laminated window panel according to claim 5, further including a bonding material between said substantially rigid member and portions of said one of said rigid, transparent sheets with which said member is intimately conformed.
-
7. A laminated window panel according to claim 3 wherein said substantially rigid member has a coefficient of thermal expansion of from 0.5 to 8.0 microinches/inch/* F. between -100* F. and 300* F.
-
8. A laminated window panel comprising an assembly of rigid, transparent sheets bonded together by a plastic interlayer material and having at least one member composed of fiberglass impregnated with cured thermosetting resin bonded to said interlayer material, said member extending substantially parallel to and about marginal surface portions of one major surface of at least one of said rigid, transparent sheets and across at least a portion of the adjacent marginal edge surface of said one of said rigid, transparent sheets.
-
9. A laminated window panel according to claim 8 wherein said resin impregnated fiberglass member extends substantially parallel to and about marginal surface portions of both major surfaces of said one of said rigid, transparent sheets.
-
10. A laminated window panel according to claim 9, further including at least one insert composed of fiberglass impregnated with cured thermosetting resin located within said interlayer material, said insert being located outside a centrally disposed viewing area of said panel.
