Abstract

This disclosure relates to a furniture construction having a plurality of vertically disposed space divider components which are rigidly secured together by connector post structures. The divider has a stabilizer means in the form of brackets at the floor to counterbalance modular units which can be supported by the post structures. The bracket member is attached to the post structure through a supporting bar and a screw, the head of which screw is positioned in a slot in the supporting bar between the post structure and the bracket member. Means are provided on the radial edges of the screw for turning the screw to attach the bracket construction to the bottom portion of the connector post structure. The same bracket is interchangeably useable as a support for cantilevered furniture components mounted on the space divider.

Claims

1. In a furniture construction having a plurality of vertically disposed free standing space divider panels forming a wall and means rigidly connecting said panels one to another said means defining a vertical slot opening through one face of the wall, the improvement comprising:

a stabilizer member having one portion extending vertically up said face and another portion extending outwardly from said face;

an attachment member secured to said vertical portion of said stabilizer member;

a connecting element detachably securing said attachment member to said panel connecting means;

the outer end of said other portion of said stabilizer member being floor supported;

said attachment member having a transverse slot;

said connecting element having a head seated in said slot and accessible to tools when said stabilizer member is secured to said panel connecting means.

2. A furniture construction according to claim 1 wherein said connecting element is a screw member having a plurality of tool engaging portions extending radially outwardly therefrom to provide a means for turning said screw member when said stabilizer member is attached to said attachment member.

3. A furniture construction according to claim 1 wherein said outwardly extending portion of said stabilizer member has an adjustable downwardly extending foot on the outer portion thereof which foot is adapted to be supported by the floor.

4. A furniture construction according to claim 1 wherein said attachment member is L-shaped and is attached to said stabilizer member at each portion thereof.

5. A furniture construction according to claim 4 wherein said L-shaped attachment member is attached to said stabilizer member through screws, the heads thereof are positioned within said vertical slot opening between said adjacent space divider panels so as to be constrained by said space divider panels.
