1. A rotary shearing pump for handling liquids with entrained solids comprising:

  • a stationary pump body provided with a central inlet orifice and a tangential discharge volute, a rotor of the centrifugal type which is symmetrical with respect to an axis of rotation and comprises a hydraulic wheel of the closed type having a plurality of curved vanes and a separate central shearing wheel, means detachably connecting the shearing wheel to the hydraulic wheel for replacement of the shearing wheel and for attachment of the rotor to a drive means, the shearing wheel having curved vanes, the number of vanes of the shearing wheel being the same as the number of vanes of the hydraulic wheel, and the vanes of both wheels having surfaces whose lateral generating lines are parallel to the axis of the rotor, the vanes of the shearing wheel having exposed free cutting edges that are spaced apart from the pump body, and the vanes of both wheels, when the latter are assembled, providing continuous surfaces, means for driving the rotor in rotation, at least one stationary blade disposed transversely with respect to the shearing wheel, and having a cutting edge located in the immediate vicinity of said edges of the shearing-wheel vanes, said edges of the shearing-wheel vanes being located on a conical surface whose axis if the axis of rotation of the rotor and the inner lines of intersection of the shearing-wheel vanes with the shearing wheel being tangent to the axis of rotation of the rotor substantially at the vertex of said conical surface, and an inertia flywheel within the pumP body on the hydraulic wheel.
