1. A latching mechanism for latching mateable units together, said units consisting of a first unit having longitudinal, linear paths along either internal side and a camming surface positioned on said linear path, and a second unit having inwardly facing projections on either side, said projections aligned with said linear path in said first unit where said units are in mateable position said latching mechanism comprising:
- a. a pair of elongated latching arms, each positioned on opposite sides of said first mateable unit and operable for reciprocal movement along a linear path parallel to the longitudinal axis of said mateable units, each of said arms having an opening adjacent one end adapted to engage said inwardly facing projections of said second mateable unit; and
b. operating means connected to another end of said latching arms for reciprocably moving said latching arms along said linear path so that said camming surface provided along said linear path engages and moves said latching arms transversely with respect to said linear path.

Abstract
An electrical connector comprises a housing member housing electrical terminals disposed in dielectric blocks. Latching arms are movably mounted in guide slots along opposing sides of the housing member. Cam means are provided in the slots and on the latching arms to cause latching sections of the latching arms to be moved into and out of latching engagement with a complementary housing member when eccentric operating means operate the latching arms so that the mating electrical terminals are connected and operate the latching arms. Polarizing means are provided on the housing members to assure proper engagement therebetween.
