STANCHION FOR BEVERAGE TAP
First Claim
1. A stanchion for surrounding a beverage tap comprising, in combination, an elongated hollow body made up of plural sections separable from each other but defining said elongated hollow body when assembled, means for holding said plural sections in assembled relationship, means defining an opening in said body at a joint between said plural sections, a faucet plate position at said opening, means defining a tap faucet opening in said faucet plate, and faucet plate engaging means on said plural sections in the area of said body opening and said joint arranged to releasably engage said faucet plate when said plural sections are assembled to form said joint and release said fuacet plate upon disassembly of said plural sections at said joint so that said faucet plate is held in said opening by interengagement between said faucet plate and said faucet plate engaging means and is released for removal from said stanchion by separation of said plural sections at said joint.

Abstract
A stanchion in two separable sections surrounds a vertical tap. A faucet opening is provided in the side wall of the stanchion at a joint between the separable sections. A detachable faucet plate is held in position in the faucet opening by interengagement between the plate and the separable sections when they are joined to form the stanchion. The tap faucet extends through an opening in the faucet plate. Faucet plates with different openings to accommodate taps with different numbers and arrangements of faucets can be fitted into the stanchion. The top of the stanchion is free to carry point of purchase advertising.

1. 2. The stanchion of claim 1 wherein said plural sectIons are generally elongated and said sections and the joints therebetween extend generally parallel to the longitudinal axis of said body.

The stanchion of claim 2 including means at one end of said body defining spaced grooves opening laterally outwardly of said body, and a movable member having spaced inwardly turned lips arranged to register in said grooves to hold said plural sections assembled and slidable out of said grooves to release said plural sections for disassembly.

The stanchion of claim 3 wherein said body is generally cylindrical, said grooves are located at one end of said body and are arcuate and of limited arcuate extension to define open areas therebetween, and said movable member is generally circular in cross-section and said lips are arcuate and of limited arcuate extension to define open areas therebetween for positioning of said lips in the areas between said arcuate grooves for rotation into and out of interlocking engagement in said grooves.

5. The stanchion of claim 4 wherein said movable member carries point of purchase indicia.

6. The stanchion of claim 5 wherein said movable member is capable of transmitting light therethrough, including indicia means surrounding said movable member, and including a source of light within said movable member.

The stanchion of claim 1 wherein said faucet plate holding means includes tab means on said plural sections in the area of said opening and projecting inwardly of said body to engage the edges of said faucet plate, and means located inward of a portion of the inner wall of one of said plural sections in the area of said opening and defining with said inner wall portion a groove into which an edge of said faucet plate is slidably received.

The stanchion of claim 2 wherein said faucet plate holding means includes tab means on said plural sections in the area of said opening and projecting inwardly of said body to engage the edges of said faucet plate, and means located inward of a portion of the inner wall of one of said plural sections in the area of said opening and defining with said inner wall portion a groove into which an edge of said faucet plate is slidably received.

The stanchion of claim 8 wherein said tab means includes a first inwardly projecting tab adjacent one side of said body opening and second tab adjacent an opposite side of said body opening, said first and second tabs being on opposite sides of said joint, said groove defining means includes a projection on one of said sections generally parallel to the inner wall to which it is adjacent and located intermediate said first and second tabs, and a lip adjacent said opening opposite from said groove defining means for engaging an edge of said faucet plate.

The stanchion of claim 9 including means at one end of said body defining spaced grooves opening laterally outwardly of said body, and a movable member having spaced inwardly turned lips arranged to register in said grooves to hold said plural sections assembled and slidable out of said grooves to release said plural sections for disassembly.
