Abstract

Water-soluble, alkaline curing resins which are the reaction products of an epihalohydrin and a polymer of a diallylamine are disclosed. The resins are particularly useful as wet strength agents for paper and additionally give superior dry strength to paper.

Claims

2. The paper product of claim 1 wherein (A) is a homopolymer.

3. The paper product of claim 2 wherein the epihalohydrin is epichlorohydrin.

4. The paper product of claim 3 wherein (A) is a homopolymer of diallylamine.

5. The paper product of claim 3 wherein (A) is a homopolymer of N-methyldiallylamine.

6. The paper product of claim 3 wherein (A) is a homopolymer of Beta -propionamidodiallylamine.

7. The paper product of claim 1 wherein (A) is a copolymer having units of said formula and units of at least one different monomer selected from vinylidene monomers and sulfer dioxide.

8. The paper product of claim 7 wherein the epihalohydrin is epichlorohydrin.

9. The paper product of claim 8 wherein (A) is a copolymer of N-methyldiallylamine and sulfur dioxide.

10. The paper product of claim 8 wherein (A) is a copolymer of N-methyldiallylamine and dimethyldiallylammonium chloride.

11. The paper product of claim 8 wherein (A) is a copolymer of N-methyldiallylamine and diallylamine.

12. The paper product of claim 8 wherein (A) is a copolymer of diallylamine and acrylamide.

13. The paper product of claim 8 wherein (A) is a copolymer of N-methyldiallylamine and acrylamide.

14. The paper product of claim 8 wherein (A) is a terpolymer of diallylamine, acrylamide and sulfur dioxide.
