1. A method for securing a coil within a slot of a core of a dynamoelectric machine comprising the steps of:
- placing a flexible strip of insulating material over the exposed surface of a coil in a slot of said core with the ends of said strip extending from the slot ends;
placing one or more slot filler members over said flexible strip;
driving one or more interior slot wedges into grooves in the lateral walls of said slot near the opening thereof;
wrapping said flexible strip ends over the end of said slot filler members said interior slot wedges and, while said flexible strip ends are in the foregoing position, driving into said grooves and over said flexible strip a locking slot wedge secured aGainst longitudinal movement.

Abstract
For retention of a coil in dynamoelectric machine core slots, a slot wedge is provided with a compressible end that is normally oversized in relation to the slot width. The wedge is compressed when driven through the slot. The oversized portion then expands when it reaches the first vent duct and locks the wedge in the slot. Another feature is to use a flexible insulating tape between the coil and the slot filler strips with ends extending from the slot so that they can be wrapped around the ends of the filler strips and be secured by a locking type wedge, which may be as described above, at each end of the stack.

wrapping said flexible strip ends over the end of said slot filler members said interior slot wedges and, while said flexible strip ends are in the foregoing position, driving into said grooves and over said flexible strip a locking slot wedge secured aGainst longitudinal movement.
- placing a flexible strip of insulating material over the exposed surface of a coil in a slot of said core with the ends of said strip extending from the slot ends;
-
2. A method in accordance with claim 1 wherein;
- before said locking slot wedge is driven an end thereof with lateral projections is compressed in lateral dimension to fit within said grooves and the driving of said locking slot wedge is continued until said lateral projections have passed through a first pack of laminations of said core and expand to a locking position.
-
3. A method in accordance with claim 1 wherein:
- before said locking slot wedge is driven an adhesive material is applied to one or more of said elements to adhesively bond said flexible strip to said slot filler members and to said locking wedge when said locking wedge has been driven into position.
-
4. A method for securing coils in a slot of a dynamoelectric machine core comprising the steps of:
- placing at least one insulated coil into the slot;
placing a flexible strip of insulating material on the coil, said strip having an end extending from an end of said slot;
placing at least one slot filler member on said flexible strip;
wrapping said end of said flexible strip over an end of said at least one slot filler member so a portion of said flexible strip lies on a top surface of said slot filler remote from said coil; and
inserting a slot wedge on said portion of said flexible strip and said top surface of said slot filler.
- placing at least one insulated coil into the slot;
-
5. The subject matter of claim 4 wherein:
- the inserting of said slot wedge is performed by driving a slot wedge longitudinally through grooves near the mouth of the slot.
-
6. The subject matter of claim 5 wherein:
- said slot wedge has a laterally compressible forward end with lateral projections which when driven through said core expand to a lateral dimensions exceeding the maximum groove width and lock said slot wedge against movement back toward the end from which it was driven.
