POOL WATER TEMPERATURE CONTROL
First Claim
1. A dual water temperature control apparatus for use in the circulating water supply for a swimming pool and a therapeutic pool having a common heater, common pump and main thermostat for regulating water temperature in said swimming pool, comprising valve means with a first position directing substantially all the circulating water through said swimming pool and a second position directing substantially all the circulating water through said therapeutic pool;
- means for switching said valve means from one position to the other;
a spa thermostat for regulating the temperature of the circulating water at a higher temperature than that established by said main thermostat; and
means responsive to the switching of said valve means from its first position to its second position to actuate said spa thermostat.

Abstract
A dual temperature control system to regulate separately the water temperature in a swimming pool and in an adjacent therapeutic pool with the use of a single heater and circulating pump. Valve means in one position direct substantially all circulating water to the swimming pool at low back pressure and in a second position direct substantially all water flow to the therapeutic pool at a higher back pressure. A spa temperature control which is responsive to the higher back pressure or is electrically actuated in concurrence with the valve means, overrides the main heater thermostatic control and regulates the temperature of water flowing to the therapeutic pool at a level higher than that normally supplied to the swimming pool.

1. A dual water temperature control apparatus for use in the circulating water supply for a swimming pool and a therapeutic pool having a common heater, common pump and main thermostat for regulating water temperature in said swimming pool, comprising valve means with a first position directing substantially all the circulating water through said swimming pool and a second position directing substantially all the circulating water through said therapeutic pool;
- means for switching said valve means from one position to the other;
a spa thermostat for regulating the temperature of the circulating water at a higher temperature than that established by said main thermostat; and
means responsive to the switching of said valve means from its first position to its second position to actuate said spa thermostat.
- means for switching said valve means from one position to the other;
-
2. The dual water temperature control of claim 1 wherein the means responsive to the switching of said valve means from its first position to its second position to actuate said spa thermostat is a pressure switch sensitive to increase in back pressure of the circulating water in the vicinity of said spa thermostat.
-
3. The dual water temperature control of claim 1 wherein the means for switching said valve means is an electrical solenoid means and the means responsive to the switching of said valve means from its first position to its second position to actuate said spa thermostat is an electrical relay simultaneously operable with said solenoid means.

4. The dual water temperature control of claim 2 wherein the valve means comprises a hollow, cylindrical shell having at one end a first inlet port and at its opposite end a first outlet port;
- a pair of coaxial second outlet ports disposed at 180 degrees from one another in the shell in the vicinity of said first inlet port;
a pair of coaxial second inlet ports disposed at 180 degrees from one another in the shell in the vicinity of said outlet port;
a rotatable sleeve within said shell having an open inlet end coaxial with the shell near said first inlet port, an open outlet end coaxial with the shell near said first outlet port, a transverse interior barrier segregating the sleeve interior into an inlet and an outlet portion, a first sleeve port in the inlet portion of said sleeve oriented for selected coincidence with either of said pair of second outlet ports, and a second sleeve port in the outlet portion of said sleeve oriented for selective coincidence with either of said pair of second inlet ports;
means for rotating said sleeve with respect to said shell to orient said first sleeve port with one of said pair of second outlet ports and said second sleeve port with one of the pair of second inlet ports in a first position and to orient said first sleeve port in coincidence with the other of said pair of second outlet ports and the second sleeve port in coincidence with the other said pair of second inlet ports in a second position.
- a pair of coaxial second outlet ports disposed at 180 degrees from one another in the shell in the vicinity of said first inlet port;
