BLOOD PRESSURE MONITOR WITH RATE SENSING ARTIFACT REJECTION PROCESSING CIRCUITRY
First Claim
1. In an indirect blood pressure measuring apparatus having means for externally occluding an artery with pressure and varying said pressure with known pressure valUes allowing the artery to open and close, transducer means responsive to the interaction of blood pressure and cuff pressure to develop electrical input pulse signals, and processing means coupled with said pressure means for automatically responding to a selected one of said pulse signals to provide a blood pressure measurement, the improvement comprising:
- detector means coupled between said transducer means and processing means for establishing a predetermined maximum pulse rate to selectively pass a first one of two successive input pulses provided the second pulse occurs selectively to a predetermined minimum period defined by said pulse rate.

Abstract
Apparatus for automatically implementing indirect blood pressure measurement with transducer means for deriving and developing electrical signals in response to the interaction of blood pressure and cuff pressure under a varying external pressure capable of occluding an artery, detector means for analyzing the electrical signals in terms of pulse rate for detection and rejection of artifact signals, and means for evaluating artifact signals in terms of their number and duration to provide an alarm indication when artifacts become significant.

2. In apparatus according to claim 1 wherein, said processing means comprises means for indicating systolic blood pressure upon occurrence of a first pulses passed by said detector means, and including:
- counter means enabled upon counting a predetermined number of successive ones of said passed pulses including said first passed pulse, passed pulses occurring within a fixed time period of the immediately previous passed pulse; and
, holding means responsive to the enabling of said counter means for locking-up said indication of systolic pressure.
- counter means enabled upon counting a predetermined number of successive ones of said passed pulses including said first passed pulse, passed pulses occurring within a fixed time period of the immediately previous passed pulse; and
