1. In a method of producing interfolded webs of flexible sheet material, the steps of continuously longitudinally folding a first traveling web of the sheet material into a pair of overlying folds with each of the folds of a width of about half the original web width, continuously longitudinally applying to a first half of an unfolded width of a second traveling web the traveling so-folded first web, and then folding over the first web again to provide the first web in quarter folds and to interfold the mentioned first half of the second web, and subsequently folding a portion of the remaining width of the second web beneath the folds of the mentioned first web and first half of the second web.

Abstract
Tissue webs which may be of substantially indefinite length and suitable for cutting to a convenient size for packaging are folded and interfolded. The upper or starter web of the stack is folded in quarters and so arranged that this upper web is readily grasped by the fingers of a hand and easily removed from the stack. The next lower web being interfolded with the upper is partially withdrawn from the stack so that is is presented for easy removal also. Several apparatus arrangements and methods for effecting the folding are described.

The method of producing interfolded webs according to claim 1 in which the first half of the unfolded width of the said second web is superposed on the half folded first web so that, upon folding the first web into quarter widths, the mentioned first half of the second web is folded upon itself between overlying and underlying quarter folds of the first web.
