1. In a ground radar system the method of determining the character of underground discontinuities, comprising the steps of:
- generating a transient signal, conducting said signal through a finite segment of a twoparallel-element transmission line antenna, the elements of which lay in a plane parallel to the ground plane, passing the transmission line antenna over the ground in proximity to the ground, receiving reflected signals from discontinuities beneath the earth, and displaying said signals representative of underground discontinuities.

Abstract
A system for locating underground objects, such as pipes, utility lines, culverts, ledges, and like kinds of underground discontinuities, including voids to depths in excess of 10 feet, includes a basic radar having a special antenna design which launches radiation that penetrates the earth and receives reflections from underground discontinuities for recordation in a moving vehicle.
