Abstract
A curable homogeneous gas-generating composition composed essentially of oxalyl dihydrazide coolant combined with: (a) a perchlorate oxidizer selected from the group consisting of ammonium perchlorate, the alkali metal perchlorates, and the alkali earth metal perchlorates, (b) a combustible fuel binder, and (c) propellant adjuvants. A process for the preparation of oxalyl dihydrazide is also disclosed. The gas-generating compositions of the present invention have greatly improved combustion characteristics and exhibit reduced flame temperatures.

- a. from about 20-80 percent by weight of ammonium perchlorate oxidizer, b. from about 15-35 percent by weight of a polyester fuel binder, and c. from about 0-5 percent by weight of 2,4-diamino-6-phenyl-triazine.

16. The composition of claim 15 wherein (b) the polyester binder is of the polyester-urethane type.

17. The composition of claim 15 wherein the polyester binder is a thiol terminated polyester-urethane.

18. The composition of claim 15 wherein the polyester binder is a carboxyl-terminated linear polyester.

19. The method of preparing a cured gas generating composition which comprises mixing:
- a. from about 20-80 percent by weight of perchlorate oxidizer selected from the group consisting of ammonium perchlorate, the alkali metal perchlorates, and the alkaline earth metal perchlorates, b. from about 15-35 percent by weight of a combustible fuel binder including curing agents wherein the combustible fuel binder is selected from the group consisting of polyester, polyester-polyurethane, carboxyl-terminated linear polyester, carboxyl-terminated linear aliphatic hydrocarbon, carboxyl-terminated polybutadiene, hydroxyl-terminated linear aliphatic hydrocarbon, and hydroxyl-terminated polybutadiene resins, c. from about 20-60 percent by weight of oxalyl dihydrazide coolant, and d. from about 0-10 percent by weight of propellant adjuvant, and casting the resultant mixture into a cured gas-generating composition.
