1. The method of making a plate, comprising:

  • a. forming a mixture of clay, caustic soda and water into a moldable mass;

    b. placing said mass between press platens,c. between said mass and said platens disposing moistened layers of porous material and disposing perforated grid members between said layers and said platens,d. pressing and mass between said layers and grid members with said platens heated to at least 150°

    C for a sufficient time to react said mixture and to form and cure said plate.
