Monitor for localizer antenna arrays
First Claim
1. A monitor for a localizer antenna array with a plurality of radiating elements comprising:
- (1) Means for obtaining sample currents proportional to the currents in the radiating elements,(2) Means for impedance matching each sampling means,(3) Means for dividing sample currents into three sets of parts in accordance with fixed proportions,(4) Means for combining the first set of sample currents using equal electrical paths and adding networks to obtain a resultant used to indicate course position,(5) Means for combining a second set of currents using electrical paths in proportion to the distances from an end element to each of the other elements in the array,(6) Means for comparing the magnitude of the current samples in the third set with present standards and(7) Means for reducing interference by the first and second sets of samples with the magnitudes of the samples in the third set.

Abstract
Monitor comprises approximately matched means for sampling currents in the radiating elements. The sample currents are divided into three sets of parts. One set is used for monitoring course position, another set for monitoring course width and the third set is used to monitor magnitudes of the currents in the radiating elements. The interference by the samples in the first and second sets with the monitoring of magnitudes is greatly reduced by selecting path lengths used in the course position and course width monitoring systems so that the interfering effect of the samples in the first and second sets nearly cancel each other. The magnitudes of the currents in the third set are compared with preset standards.
