Fiberglass tank and method for making the same
First Claim
1. Fiber tank components for forming a tank having a perimeter of prefabricated arcuate wall sections and means for joining said sections including:
- an elongated joiner panel having pairs of transversely spaced protrusions extending outwardly from a panel body;
said pairs being spaced along the length of said joiner panel;
said joiner panel having a plurality of aligned fibers extending in said panel body between each pair of spaced protrusions and curving to extend into said protrusions so said plurality of fibers extends substantially the length of said protrusions thus having generally a U-shape and adapted to couple a force applied to one protrusion in a pair to the other protrusion in the pair; and
each of said arcuate wall sections having a plurality of openings spaced from an edge of said section to be coupled to the openings of another such section;
said first and second openings shaped and spaced to receive a pair of protrusions of said joiner panel.

Abstract
Assembly of a fiber reinforced resin tank includes joining a plurality of prefabricated arcuate wall panel sections by elongated joiner panels extending along the vertical seams between adjacent wall sections to form the perimeter of a cylindrical tank. The wall sections have a plurality of openings adjacent the vertical sides and the joiner panels have columns of transversely spaced pairs of protrusions for coupling with the openings in adjacent panel sections. The joiner panel is able to pass circumferential hoop stress from one panel section to an adjacent panel section by providing effective clamping between the two panels through the use of continuous filament and/or geometrically oriented glass or other fibers placed into a hooked shape so the fibers extend between each pair of spaced protrusions and curve into the protrusions so the fibers extend along the protrusions. Additionally, the wall sections include criss-crossing diagonal fibers so there are crossing fibers between the openings of the wall section and the vertical edge of the wall section thereby preventing a force applied by the protrusion in the opening from tearing the wall section.

6. A generally cylindrical fiber tank formed of a plurality of curved wall sections forming the perimeter of said tank, each wall section having vertical side edges and horizontal top and bottom edges;
- each of said wall sections positioned intermediate other such wall sections along the perimeter of said tank;
a column of vertically spaced openings aligned with each vertical edge of said wall section and spaced from the edge of said section;
said wall sections having criss-crossing reinforcing fibers so said fibers cross diagonally between said openings and the edge of said wall section adjacent the openings thereby reinforcing said section between said openings and the edge of said section;a joiner panel having an elongated body and pairs of transversely spaced protrusions extending outwardly from said body, said pairs being spaced along the length of said joiner panel;
said joiner panel having a plurality of aligned fibers extending between each protrusion in said pair;
said plurality of fibers curving to extend into said protrusions so said fibers terminate at the extremity of said protrusions thus forming a generally U-shape and adapted to couple a force from one protrusion of a pair to the other protrusion in the pair;
said force being applied in a direction parallel to a line connecting the two protrusions;
one of said joiner panels being longitudinally aligned with the adjacent vertical side edges of adjacent wall sections so said pairs of protrusions pass through a pair of openings, each opening in said pair of openings being in a different, adjacent wall section;a plurality of pie-shaped top sections with generally straight side edges, said top sections adapted to be coupled in a spoke-like manner thereby forming a top to said tank; and a catalyzed filler applied to the joints between said wall panels between said top sections and between said top sections and wall panels. - View Dependent Claims (7, 8, 9, 10)

11. A generally cylindrical fiber tank formed of a plurality of curvilinear wall sections forming the perimeter of said tank;
- said wall sections each having an edge with an end surface and side surfaces, said end surfaces of each section abutting against another end surface of an adjacent section and said side surfaces being flush with an adjacent side surface of another section;
a plurality of joiner panels each having an elongated body having portions overlapping the side surfaces of a joint formed between two adjacent sections;
pairs of transversely spaced protrusions extending from the said overlapping portions of said body;
said pairs being spaced along the length of said joiner panel;
said wall sections having openings in their said side surfaces, said openings being spaced along the length thereof a distance corresponding to the longitudinal spacing of said protrusions, said joiner panels positioned and secured over the said joints formed between said adjacent wall sections so said protrusions are received in the openings of the wall sections thereby securing said adjacent wall sections to each other. - View Dependent Claims (12, 13, 14)
