1. A process for hydrotreating a partially desulfurized petroleum oil feedstock in a reaction zone at a temperature ranging from about 500°

  • to about 1500°

    F. in the presence of sufficient added hydrogen to produce a hydrogen partial pressure of from about 500 to 5000 psi, which comprises;

    contacting said feedstock in said reaction zone with a reagent consisting essentially of a compound selected from the group consisting of (a) at least one alkali metal compound selected from the group consisting of alkali metal oxides, alkali metal sulfides, alkali metal hydrosulfides, alkali metal amides, alkali metal carbonates, alkali metal carboxylates, and alkali metal alkoxides;

    (b) at least one compound selected from the group consisting of alkaline earth metal hydroxides, alkaline earth metal sulfides, alkaline earth metal hydrosulfides, alkaline earth metal amides, alkaline earth metal carbonates, alkaline earth metal alkoxides, and (c) a mixture of at least one alkali metal compound and at least one alkaline earth metal compound, said alkali metal compound being selected from the group consisting of alkali metal oxides, alkali metal hydroxides, alkali metal sulfides, alkali metal hydrosulfides, alkali metal amides, alkali metal carbonates, alkali metal carboxylates, alkali metal alkoxides and, wherein said alkaline earth metal compound is selected from the group consisting of alkaline earth metal oxides, alkaline earth metal hydroxides, alkaline earth metal sulfides, alkaline earth metal hydrosulfides, alkaline earth metal carboxylates and alkaline earth metal alkoxides.
