A method for the treatment of stress urinary incontinence or the incompetent cervix in pregnancy comprising forming a loop from a flexible surgical suture submucosally at the level of the internal os of a mammal, placing the ends of said suture in lapping relationship in a cylindrical crimpable sleevem and crimping said sleeve so as to impinge on the ends of said suture and lock the suture in the form of a loop.
