1. A mobile citizens band transceiver comprising:

  • a chassis adapted to be installed in a remote location in a motor vehicle such as under the dashboard or seat or in the trunk thereof, or the like, so as to reduce the possibility of theft or the likelihood that the chassis could cause injury to the occupants of the vehicle in the event of an accident or sudden stop;

    frequency synthesizer means mounted on said chassis and including phase-locked loop circuit means responsive to give channel selection control signals for generating and precisely maintaining predetermined desired radio channel frequencies;

    receiver circuitry means mounted on said chassis for receiving a plurality of radio frequency signals at said predetermined radio channel frequencies and for converting said radio frequency signals into audio frequency electrical signals;

    transmitter circuitry means mounted on said chassis for converting input audio frequency electrical signals into radio frequency signals to be transmitted at any one of said plurality of predetermined desired radio channel frequencies;

    serial-to-parallel register means responsive to a given serially-received multibit signal pattern for generating a corresponding given channel selection control signal for operating said frequency synthesizer means;

    a separate control means of a size which may be selectively held and operated in a person'"'"'s hand, said separate control means being mounted in a position within easy reach of the person operating the motor vehicle, said separate control means including;

    means for storing a plurality of multibit signal patterns representative of a plurality of said predetermined desired radio channel frequencies;

    manually-operable channel-selection means for selecting any one of said plurality of predetermined radio channel frequencies;

    means responsive to said manually-operable channel-selection means for addressing a selected one of said multibit signal patterns indicative of a corresponding one of said predetermined desired radio channel frequencies;

    parallel-to-serial register means for receiving said addressed multibit signal pattern in parallel from said storage means and for outputting said selected multibit signal pattern sequence in a serial manner; and

    connector means electrically coupling said separate control means to said remotely located chassis for serially transmitting said outputted multibit signal pattern sequence to said serial-to-parallel register means of said frequency synthesizer means thereby significantly reducing the size of the electrical cable and the number of connecting wires normally required for the parallel transfer of channel selection data between said control means and said frequency synthesizer means.
