1. A digital joystick control comprising:

  • (a) an elongated shaft member having a spherical ball at one end thereof;

    (b) first and second socket members coupled to said elongated shaft member to provide a swivel joint between said ball and said socket members for enabling pivotal movement, of said shaft member about said ball in any direction, movement of said shaft member effecting corresponding pivotal movement of said socket members;

    (c) first and second plate members respectively connected to said first and second socket members for pivotal movement therewith, said plate members having a patterned surface of conductive and non-conductive regions;

    (d) a plurality of wiper arms in opposing relation to said conductive and non-conductive regions of said plate members for engaging said patterned surfaces, the locations of the conductive and non-conductive regions of the patterned surfaces with respect to the wiper arms being changeable in response to movement of said shaft member whereby a unique digital-coded positional signal is generated for each predetermined incremental position of said shaft member.
