Method for making random laid bonded continuous filament cloth
First Claim
1. Method of producing elastic cloth comprising, at least the steps of generally continuously forwarding synthetic organic relatively elastomeric fibers and elongatable but relatively non-elastic fibers for well dispersed random laydown of an unbonded web with random fiber crossings onto a forming surface, bonding at least some of said fiber crossings to provide a coherent bonded cloth web and mechanically working said bonded web to elongate at least some of said fibers in at least one direction so that retraction of said relatively elastomeric fibers provides looping and bunching of the elongated relatively non-elastic fibers to thereby develop a low modulus of elasticity in said at least one direction.

Abstract
A method of forming an elastic cloth structure comprising fibers of synthetic, organic, relatively elastomeric polymer and fibers of a synthetic, organic, elongatable, but relatively nonelastic polymer. The relatively elastomeric fibers and the elongatable but relatively nonelastic fibers are forwarded for well dispersed random lay down of an unbonded web with random fiber crossings on a porous forming surface. Some of the fiber crossings are then bonded to provide a coherent bonded cloth web and the web is stretched to elongate some of the fibers in at least one direction. The web is then released so that retraction by the relatively elastomeric fibers provides looping and bunching of the elongated relatively nonelastic fibers to thereby provide a low modulus of elasticity in the direction in which the web was worked.

13. Method of making an elastic cloth-like laminate comprising, at least the steps of, forming a synthetic organic elastomeric polymer to define a porous cloth-like layer, forming a synthetic organic stretchable but relatively non-elastic polymer to define a porous cloth-like layer, superposing such layers one above the other, bonding said layers together at a plurality of spaced apart bond points, stretching the resultant laminate to irresversibly stretch the non-elastic layer between the bond points, and subsequently thereto releasing the laminate so that the elastomeric layer recovers to thereby develop crimp in the non-elastic layer between said bond points.
