- forming a solution comprising water and at least one water-soluble salt selected from the group consisting of carboxymethyl cellulose, carboxyethyl cellulose, carboxypropyl cellulose, carboxymethyl hydroxyethyl cellulose, carboxyethyl hydroxyethyl cellulose, and carboxymethyl hydroxymethyl cellulose wherein the amount of the water-soluble salt is within the range of about 0.3 to about 1.5 weight percent based on the weight of the solution,placing at least a portion of said solution on a support along with a suitable amount of a specimen.
