Abstract

Alkoxysilylbenzotriazoles are provided and method for making such materials. These alkoxysilanes have been found useful as UV stabilizers and as adhesion promoters for silicone top coat compositions which can be applied onto thermoplastic organic polymers to impart improved abrasion resistance and UV stabilization thereto.

Claims

1. Silylbenzotriazoles having the formula, ##STR5## R is a C.sub.(1-8) alkyl radical, R¹ is a C.sub.(1-8) alkyl or C.sub.(6-12) aryl radical, R² is selected from hydrogen and R, R³ is selected from hydrogen, C.sub.(1-8) alkyl, C.sub.(1-8) alkoxy, carbalkoxy, hydroxy, amino and halogen, and Q--(CH₂)₃ --Si(OR)₃, where Q is selected from ##STR6## R⁴ --R⁶ are selected from hydrogen and the same of different C.sub.(1-8) alkyl, C.sub.(1-8) alkoxy and halogen radicals, a is an integer equal to 1 to 3 inclusive, b is a whole number equal to 0 to 2 inclusive and the sum of a+b is equal to 1 to 3 inclusive.
