Abstract
Laminar electrical cells and batteries of the Leclanche type, in which the electrolyte comprises an aqueous solution containing from about 18 to about 22 percent of NH4 Cl and from about 25 to about 40 percent of ZnCl2 by weight, based on the weight of solution. The electrolyte may contain a gelling agent, and may initially contain a minor amount of mercuric chloride.

- 1. A battery of laminar series connected electrical cells, said cells each comprising a zinc anode, a manganese dioxide cathode, and an electrolyte comprising an aqueous solution of NH4 Cl and ZnCl2 containing from 18 to 22 percent NH4 Cl and from 25 to 40 percent ZnCl2 by weight based on the weight of solution.
- 3. A laminar electrical cell especially adapted for high current drains with variable duty cycles, comprising an anodic dispersion of zinc powder containing zinc oxide and adhered to a conductive plastic substrate with a binder, a cathodic dispersion of manganese dioxide and carbon particles in an aqueous electrolyte solution, and a separator between said anodic and cathodic dispersions, in which said electrolyte consists essentially of an aqueous solution of NH4 Cl and ZnCl2 containing from 18 to 22 percent of NH4 Cl and from 25 to 40 percent of ZnCl2 based on the weight of solution.
