1. In a connector member having a lumen carried on the end of a first conduit for sealingly connecting with the lumen of another connector member carried on the end of another conduit, the improvement comprising:
- first aperture means communicating between the exterior and the interior of said connector member, bacteria-blocking, hydrophobic filter means positioned in said first aperture means, a source of antiseptic in flow communication with said first aperture means, said source of antiseptic being capable of passing an antiseptic through said filter means, and closure means for releasably sealing the interior of said first conduit without disrupting said sealing connection with the other connector member.

Abstract
A pair of separate conduits, each having an internal seal zone, may be joined by the method which comprises sealingly joining the ends of the conduits together; thereafter adding an antiseptic into the area of the joined conduits between internal seals formed in the zones; and then opening said internal seals without separating the conduits to permit internal fluid flow through the joined conduits.

first aperture means communicating between the exterior and the interior of said connector member, bacteria-blocking filter means positioned in said first aperture means, and closure means for releasably sealing the interior of said first conduit without disrupting said sealing connection with the other connector member, said first aperture means being coverable at its outer end with a hinged cap member openable and closeable over said first aperture means, said closure means including jaw means for pinching shut the conduit, and sliding means carried on said connector member to move between a first jaw-closing, sliding position to seal said first conduit and a second sliding position in which said jaw means can open, said sliding means being positioned to be incapable of moving into said second sliding position unless said hinged cap member is in its closed position to prevent the application of antiseptic while said jaw means are open, and first aperture means communicating with first longitudinal channel means within said connector member and extending from said first aperture means toward the forward end of said connector member which joins with said other connector member, said first channel means communicating at its forward end with the connector member interior, whereby antiseptic in flow communication with said first aperture means can pass into the connector member interior to a location adjacent said forward end. - View Dependent Claims (12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17)
