Process for preparing overcoated electrophotographic imaging members
First Claim
1. A process for forming an overcoated electrophotographic imaging member comprising the steps of providing an electrophotographic imaging member, applying a coating in liquid form of a cross-linkable siloxanol-colloidal silica hybrid material having at least one silicon bonded hydroxyl group per every three --SiO-- units on said electrophotographic imaging member, and contacting said coating with an ammonia gas condensation catalyst until the siloxanol-colloidal silica hybrid material forms a hard cross-linked solid organosiloxane-silica hybrid polymer layer.

Abstract
A process for forming an overcoated electrophotographic imaging member by applying a coating of a cross-linkage siloxanol-colloidal silica hybrid material on an electrophotographic imaging member and thereafter contacting the coating with a fugitive ammonia gas condensation catalyst until the siloxanol-colloidal silica hybrid material forms a cross-linked solid layer. The cross-linkable siloxanol-colloidal silica hybrid material may be prepared by hydrolyzing trifunctional organosilanes and stabilizing the hydrolyzed silanes with colloidal silica. The electrophotographic imaging member may comprise inorganic or organic photoconductive components in one or more layers.
