1. A compound of the formula:
- ##STR5## wherein;
Q is halogen, nitro, or cyano;
X and Y are the same or different and represent hydrogen, halogen, alkyl or haloalkyl of up to 4 carbon atoms;
Z is nitrogen; and
R is --OH, --OM, --OR1, --SR1 or --NR2 R3 wherein M is an agronomically suitable salt (e.g., sodium, potassium or ammonium);
R1 is C1 to C12 alkyl optionally monosubstituted by hydroxy or C1 to C12 alkoxy, --R4 COOR5, wherein R4 is C1 to C3 alkylene optionally monosubstituted by C1 to C4 alkyl and R5 is hydrogen, C1 to C10 alkyl or an agronomically suitable salt;
R2 is hydrogen, C1 to C12 alkyl or C3 to C12 alkenyl;
R3 is hydrogen C1 to C12 alkyl, C3 to C12 alkenyl, C1 to C6 alkoxy, C2 to C6 alkyl carbonyl or C1 to C6 alkane sulfonyl.
