Method of making lithium batteries with laminar anodes
First Claim
1. The method of making a laminate of lithium and conductive plastic, comprising the steps of manipulating a body of lithium metal to expose a fresh surface of unreacted lithium metal, and contacting said freshly exposed surface directly with a sheet of conductive plastic to effect adhesion between said lithium and said conductive plastic without an intermediate adhesive promoting adjunct, said contacting step being carried out under pressure and heat at a temperature below the melting point of lithium.

Abstract
Laminar electrode subassemblies comprising a lithium layer having one surface consisting essentially of metallic lithium adhered to a conductive plastic substrate, and a method of making such subassemblies in which a web of lithium foil having at least one freshly exposed surface is laminated directly to a conductive plastic substrate without an intermediate layer of conductive plastic adhesive.

- 3. The process of making lithium anodes, comprising the steps of extruding metallic lithium through a die to produce a thin sheet of lithium having freshly exposed surfaces consisting essentially of unreacted metallic lithium, and laminating said lithium sheet directly to a sheet of conductive plastic under heat and pressure without an intermediate adhesion promoting adjunct, said extrusion and laminating steps being carried out at temperatures below the melting point of lithium.
