A process of producing fibrous activated carbon having a pH not greater than 5 by acid-treatment comprising (i) subjecting raw fibrous activated carbon fiber to an acid so as to attach or adsorb said acid to said fiber and (ii) if necessary, adjusting the pH of the fibrous activated carbon to not greater than 5, wherein the raw fibrous activated carbon has a specific surface area of at least 500 m2 /g after the acid-treatment.
