1. In an apparatus (10) for electrically braking a motor (12), said apparatus (10) having means (88) for generating a plurality of different motor power command signals each in response to a respective motor speed command, and controllable supplying means (22) for delivering motor power control signals to said motor (12), the improvement comprising:

  • means (14) for supplying a plug signal in response to plugging of said motor (12);

    means (56) for supplying a current signal in response to the magnitude of current passing through said motor (12); and

    ,blocking means (102) for receiving said current signal and said plug signal, and limiting said current to a first preselected maximum magnitude in response to the receiving of said plug signal and to a second preselected maximum magnitude in response to the absence of said plug signal, said blocking means (102) including means (98) for controllably modifying said control signals.
