1. A method of treating renal damage or failure in a host in need of treatment comprising administering to said host an effective amount for treating renal failure or damage, a vasodilator having postsynaptic alpha-adrenoceptor blocking activity and having antihyperlipidemic characteristics which lower the lipid levels in the bloodstream of the host, said vasodilator being selected from a group consisting of endralazine, trimazosin, minoxidil, diazoxide, doxazosin, triodazosin, phentolamine hydrochloride, phenoxybenzamine hydrochloride, benextramine, indoramine, and yohimbine.
