Abstract

An improved arrow system comprises an arrow shaft having first and second tubular end sections each having substantially parallel inner and outer surfaces, and an intermediate tubular section which is fixedly coupled between the first and second tubular end sections and having an inner diameter which is greatest at its ends and which decreases toward the longitudinal center of the intermediate section. An adjustable weight arrow point assembly co-operates with the first tubular end section while an adjustable weight self-aligning nock assembly co-operates with the second tubular end section. The coupling between the arrow point and shaft also provides for alignment of the former on the latter.

Claims

1. An adjustable weight arrow point assembly for use in conjunction with a tubular arrow shaft, comprising:

a point;

a rod coupled to said point and extending rearward thereof, said rod being trimmable to vary the weight of said point assembly;

a generally tubular insert adapted to be positioned within an end of said arrow shaft, said insert being provided with an outwardly extending annular flange portion at one end thereof which abuts against the edge of said end of said arrow shaft when said insert is positioned therein; and

a tubular sleeve fixedly coupled to and surrounding a portion of said rod adjacent said point, said sleeve being equipped with a plurality of projections on an outer surface thereof which frictionally engage an inner surface of said insert when said sleeve is positioned therein to secure said rod within said insert.

2. An assembly according to claim 1 wherein said insert is provided with an annular groove in its inner surface and wherein said sleeve is provided with an annular projection which is received and retained by said annular groove when said insert is positioned within said end of said arrow shaft.

3. An assembly according to claim 2 wherein said insert is trimmable to vary its weight.

4. An assembly according to claim 2 wherein said point is a target point.

5. An assembly according to claim 2 wherein said point is a broadhead point.

6. An assembly according to claim 5 further comprising:

a plurality of longitudinal grooves in the inner surface of said insert; and

a plurality of longitudinal projections on said tubular sleeve which are received by said plurality of longitudinal grooves to align and angularly secure said broadhead point.

7. An assembly according to claim 6 wherein four longitudinal grooves and four longitudinal projections are provided and positioned in quadrature.

8. An assembly according to claim 7 wherein said insert is plastic.

9. An assembly according to claim 7 wherein said sleeve is plastic.

10. An assembly according to claim 7 wherein said rod is metal.

11. An assembly according to claim 7 wherein said trimmable rod extends beyond the rear of said tubular sleeve.

12. An assembly according to claim 11 wherein said rod extends approximately five inches to the rear of said sleeve.

13. An adjustable weight arrow point assembly for use in connection with a tubular arrow shaft, comprising:

a point;

a rod coupled to said point and extending rearward thereof, said rod being trimmable to vary the weight of said point assembly;

a generally tubular internally threaded insert adapted to be positioned within an end of said arrow shaft; and

an externally threaded tubular sleeve fixedly coupled to and surrounding a portion of said rod adjacent said point, said sleeve for threadably engaging said insert to secure said point.

14. An assembly according to claim 13 wherein said insert is provided with a tubular extension, said tubular extension being trimmable to render the weight of the insert adjustable.

15. An assembly according to claim 14 wherein said insert is plastic.

16. An assembly according to claim 14 wherein said tubular sleeve is plastic.

17. An assembly according to claim 14 wherein said rod is metal.

18. An assembly according to claim 14 wherein said rod extends rearward of said tubular sleeve.

19. An apparatus for aligning an arrow point within a tubular arrow shaft, comprising:

a rod fixedly coupled to said point and extending rearward thereof;

a generally tubular insert adapted to be positioned within an end of said arrow shaft, said tubular insert including a plurality of longitudinal grooves in an inner surface of said insert; and

a tubular sleeve fixedly coupled to and surrounding a portion of said rod adjacent said point, said sleeve including a plurality of longitudinal projections on an outer surface of said sleeve which are received and retained by said grooves when said sleeve is positioned within said insert.

20. An apparatus according to claim 19 further including a plurality of projections on an outer surface of said sleeve which frictionally engage said inner surface when said sleeve is positioned in said insert.

21. An apparatus according to claim 20 wherein said insert is provided with an annular groove in said inner surface and wherein said sleeve is provided with an annular projection which is received and retained by said annular groove.

22. An apparatus according to claim 21 wherein said insert is provided with an outwardly extending annular flange portion at one end thereof which abuts against the edge of said arrow shaft when said insert is positioned therein.

23. An apparatus according to claim 22 wherein said rod extends behind said sleeve.

24. An apparatus according to claim 23 wherein said rod is trimmable so as to permit its weight to be varied.

25. An apparatus according to claim 24 wherein four quadrature longitudinal grooves and four quadrature longitudinal projections are provided.

26. An apparatus according to claim 25 wherein said insert is plastic.

27. An apparatus according to claim 25 wherein said sleeve is plastic.

28. An apparatus for aligning an arrow point within a tubular arrow shaft, comprising:

a generally tubular internally threaded insert adapted to be positioned within an end of said arrow shaft, said insert being provided with a tubular extension which is trimmable to vary the weight of said insert; and

a cylindrical externally threaded portion fixedly coupled behind said point which threadably engages said insert to align said point, said externally threaded portion including a rod fixedly coupled to said point and extending rearward thereof, and an externally threaded sleeve fixedly coupled to and surrounding a portion of said rod.

29. An apparatus according to claim 28 wherein said sleeve and said insert are plastic.
