1. A method for removing odors and harmful gases from indoor air which comprises contacting the air, odors and harmful gases with an air treatment filter element, said element consisting essentially of at least one layer of an adsorbent material selected from the group consisting of zeolite, activated carbon, silica gel, and a combination thereof, said adsorbent material containing a liquid for inhibiting the growth of microorganisms, said liquid being present in an amount from about 5 to about 50% by weight of the combined weight of said adsorbent and said liquid;

  • said liquid comprising;

    (a) a fungicide/bacteriocide preservative composition in an amount from about 0.5 to 2% by weight of the liquid;

    (b) at least one polyhydric alcohol, said polyhydric alcohol being present in an amount from about 83 to 99.5% by weight of the liquid; and

    (c) at least one compound for modifying the vapor pressure of said polyhydric alcohol, said compound being present in an amount of less than about 15% by weight of the liquid.
