Abstract
Methylsulfonylmethane (CH3 SO2 CH3) administered orally is effective in ameliorating the symptoms of gastrointestinal upset, e.g., produced by the ingestion of aspirin and other pharmaceuticals, and of allergic reactions. Oral compositions containing a mixture of such a pharmaceutical and methylsulfonylmethane are useful in avoiding the gastrointestinal upset which otherwise occurs when ingesting the former.

- 6. A flowable powder adapted for compression into orally ingestible tablets, wherein the powder particles consist essentially of a pharmaceutically orally active agent selected from the group consisting of analgesics, anti-neoplastic agents, anti-inflammatory agents, cardiovascular agents, antibiotics and other chemotherapeutants for microbial diseases, suspended or dissolved in an amount from about 100 to 1,000 mg of methylsulfonylmethane effective to improve the flow characteristics of the former in powder form.
- 9. A pharmaceutical composition in granule or tablet form adapted for oral ingestion and comprising a pharmaceutically orally-active agent selected from the group consisting of analgesics, anti-neoplastic agents, anti-inflammatory agents, cardiovascular agents, antibiotics and other chemotherapeutants for microbial diseases, and a granulating or tableting adjuvant, respectively, consisiting predominantly of from 100 to 1,000 mg of methylsulfonylmethane.
