First Claim
Patent Images
1. A cleaning device comprising:
- a suction nozzle;
suction means for removing fluid from a surface to be cleaned through said suction nozzle;
separating means between said suction nozzle and said suction means for separating liquid and gas from said removed fluid, outputting said gas to said suction means, and retaining said liquid; and
said separating means having a cylindrical housing, a fluid inlet to said housing, a gas outlet displaced from said fluid inlet, a vertically downwardly increasing diameter conical shroud in said housing extending substantially to the top thereof, said fluid inlet being at the level of the top exterior of said shroud into the large end of a vertically upwardly increasing area extending from the top of said housing between said shroud and said housing, which area directs said fluid downwardly while increasing the velocity thereof, and said gas outlet being interiorly of said shroud and extending upwardly through the top of said housing into communication with said suction means.

2. A cleaning device according to claim 1 wherein said housing is a hollow cylindrical tube closed at the top except for an opening providing said communication with said suction means which encompasses said shroud and is longer than said shroud.
-
3. A cleaning device according to claim 1 wherein the axis of said fluid inlet is tangential to said cylindrical body to produce a spiral flow.
-
4. A cleaning device according to claim 1 wherein said gas outlet has an opening for the entry of said gas which is vertically displaced from the bottom edge of said shroud, and said gas outlet'"'"'s entry opening is closer to said bottom edge than to the top of said shroud.
