A water-reducible coating composition comprising an epoxy resin, an amino group-containing curing agent for it and an emulsifying auxiliary compound, characterized in that the emulsifying auxiliary compound is a water soluble organic compound which occurs in at least 2 tautomeric forms, in one of which a labile hydrogen atom is linked to a carbon atom and which compound contains at least one carbonyloxy group or sulfonyl group.
