1. A method of thermally reacting one or more inorganic materials at a predetermined reaction temperature comprising:

  • (a) maintaining a flame in a combustion zone at said predetermined reaction temperature by passing effective combustion quantities of a fluid stream comprising a hydrocarbon fuel and oxygen into said flame;

    (b) comminuting said inorganic materials to a predetermined particle size sufficient to be transported by gas flow; and

    (c) suspending said comminuted particles of said inorganic compounds in intimate contact with said hydrocarbon fuel and said oxygen within said fluid stream, and passing said fluid stream to the interior of said flame to thereby effect said thermal reaction of said particulate inorganic material therewithin.
