1. A method of treating a human or warm-blooded animal patient suffering from bone injury to prevent the occurrence of osteitis or osteomyelitis, said method comprising administering systemically to said patient a therapeutically effective amount of a compound of formula (I) ##STR5## wherein R1 represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group having from 1 to 6 carbon atoms and R2 represents a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group having from 1 to 6 carbon atoms or a group of formula (II) ##STR6## in which R1 is as defined above.

Compounds of formula (I) ##STR1## [wherein R1 represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group having from 1 to 6 carbon atoms and R2 represents a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group having from 1 to 6 carbon atoms or a group of formula (II) ##STR2## in which R1 is as defined above] and pharmaceutical compositions thereof may be administered prophylactically to humans or warm-blooded animals to combat the occurrence of osteitis or osteomyelitis, especially in patients suffering from bone injuries of traumatic origin.
