A method of providing a source of metabolizable sulfur to an animal whose diet comprises sufficient processed food to render the animal'"'"'s diet deficient in metabolizable sulfur, which comprises physically admixing with one or more of the foodstuffs ingested daily by the animal, prior to the ingestion thereof by the animal, an amount of methylsulfonylmethane equivalent to at least 0.01 mg/kg of body weight per day.
