1. A printer, comprising:
- a casing having a substantially cuboidal shape with an operation panel formed on a front face thereof;
a printing unit includinga printing medium-attaching portion, anda printing head portion pivotably attached to the printing medium-attaching portion so that the printing head portion pivots between open and closed positions;
moving means for supporting said printing unit so that the printing unit can be drawn out from the front face of the casing, and for automatically positioning the printing head portion in the open position when the printing unit is drawn out from the casing; and
a control circuit for controlling the printing operation of the printing head portion.

Abstract
A printer including a casing having a front face, a printing unit, and a control circuit. The printing unit includes a printing medium attaching portion and a printing head portion pivotably attached to the printing medium attaching portion. The printing unit is supported in the casing by a moving mechanism so that the printing unit can be freely drawn out forward from the front face of the casing. The moving mechanism also automatically positions the printing head in an open position with respect to the printing medium attaching portion when the printing unit is drawn out from the casing.
