1. The method of maximizing the useful reflective area on the operative surface of a molded segmented mirror by employing the following steps in forming segments of a master block to be independently translated along parallel cylindrical guides and into conformance with a datum surface, during the making of a die used in forming the molded segmented mirror:

  • (a) drilling parallel cylindrical guide holes into the block from the rear, inoperative side of the master block, and terminating said drilling before penetrating the operative side of the block, and(b) employing a laser cutter to form cuts through the block and to cut out said segments from the block, and focusing the laser cutter so that the thinnest diameter of the laser beam is coincident with the operative surface of the master block,(c) certain of said cuts formed to intersect said guide holes.
