1. A method of sealably covering an exposed electrical cable comprising the steps of:
- applying sealant material onto said exposed cable;
placing the ends of a split unitary, tubular protective cover having a sealant on one surface thereof over the sealant material in overlapped disposition such that said sealant on said cover surface is disposed between the overlapping cover ends; and
perimetrically compressing said split cover about said cable such that said sealant contacts said sealant material and such that said sealant disposed between said overlapping ends joins such ends in sealed relation.

Abstract
An exposed portion of an electrical cable is sealed by applying a sealant material to the exposed cable and then placing the ends of a split unitary cover over the sealant material in overlapped disposition. The cover is then compressed into contact with the sealant material. In repairing a damaged cable sheath, a reinforcing member may be placed over the sealant material prior to placing the cover thereover.

6. A method of repairing a damaged electrical cable comprising the steps of:
-
applying sealant material onto said damaged cable; placing a reinforcing member onto said sealant material; placing the ends of a split, unitary, heat-cured protective cover having a sealant on one surface thereof over the reinforcing member in overlapped disposition such that said sealant is disposed between said cover and said reinforcing member; and non-heatably compressing said split cover about said cable such that said sealant contacts said reinforcing member to provide a seal between said cover and said cable. - View Dependent Claims (7, 8)

9. A method of sealably covering an exposed portion of an electrical cable comprising the steps of:
-
providing a generally cylindrical, split, unitary protective cover to have axial extent greater than said exposed cable portion, longitudinally extending ends of said split cover overlapping over a circumferential portion, said cover having a first sealant on its interior surface and a second sealant disposed between said overlapping ends; placing said cover onto said cable such that the axial ends thereof extend axially beyond the exposed cable portion and such that said first sealant is adjacent said cable and said longitudinal ends are in overlapping relation with said second sealant disposed between such overlapping ends; and radially, non-heatably compressing said cover about said cable such that said first sealant sealably contacts said cable and such that said second sealant joins said overlapping ends in sealed relation. - View Dependent Claims (10)
