Abstract

An ostomy device comprises an ostomy bag with a first coupling member attached thereto. A second coupling member for mating engagement with the first is attached to an adhesive backed label for adhering to the skin of the wearer around a stoma by a flexible mounting member comprising first and second sections coupled together at an inner peripheral region defining a stoma aperture therein. The second coupling member is attached to the first section at an outer peripheral region spaced apart from the inner peripheral region by hot melt adhesive while the second section is attached to the label at an outer peripheral region spaced apart from the inner peripheral region. The second section is attached by hot melt adhesive.

Claims

1. A method of mounting a plastic coupling member to a surface of an adhesive backed label, said coupling member used for detachably connecting an ostomy bag to said label, said method comprising the steps of:

providing a plastic coupling member and an adhesive backed label;

forming a flexible mounting member comprising first and second sections coupled together at an inner peripheral region which defines an aperture therein and each said section having an outer peripheral region spaced from said inner peripheral region;

coupling said plastic coupling member to said first section only at the outer peripheral region thereof;

coupling said second section to a surface of said adhesive backed label only at the outer peripheral region of said second section so that said second section is movable away from said label in the region of the aperture.

2. The method of claim 1 wherein said flexible mounting member comprises polymeric foam.

3. The method of claim 2 wherein said polymeric foam comprises polyethylene foam.

4. The method of claim 2 wherein the step of forming further comprises:

joining two sheets of said polymeric foam together along a closed loop region;

forming said aperture in said two sheets having a perimeter adjacent said closed loop region; and

trimming away excess material to form a border around said closed loop region to form said first and second sections.

5. The method of claim 4 wherein said coupling steps comprise applying hot melt adhesive between the surfaces of the portions to be coupled.
