System for delivering drug with enhanced bioacceptability
First Claim
1. A process for lessening the incidence of irritation of a mucosal environment associated with the beneficial drug potassium chloride that produces irritation of a mucosal environment, said process comprising the steps of administering a composition comprising polyethylene oxide, potassium carboxyvinyl polymer and potassium chloride to a mucosal environment, lessening the incidence of unwanted irritation by the polyethylene oxide and potassium carboxyvinyl polymer cooperating in the presence of fluid in the mucosal environment reduce direct contact of the potassium chloride within the mucosal tissue, thereby lessening the incidence of irritation associated with potassium chloride therapy.

2. A process for lessening the incidence of irritation of a mucosal environment associated with a drug that produces irritation of a mucosal environment, said process comprising administering a composition comprising means for lessening the incidence of irritation associated with a drug that produces irritation on contact, said means comprising (a) a first hydrogel that is essentially neutral in fluid in the mucosal environment which first hydrogel interacts with the fluid and swells, and (b) a second hydrogel that is ionic in fluid in the mucosal environment which second hydrogel interacts with the fluid and swells to a lesser volume than the first hydrogel, and which process lessens the incidence of irritation by the first hydrogel and second hydrogel acting together in the mucosal environment to lessen the incidence of irritation of the mucosal tissue associated with the drug.
