1. An electrical fuse comprising:

  • a housing;

    first and second electrodes and a connector within said housing;

    dielectric means for filling at least a portion of the space within said housing between said first and second electrodes;

    a fusible element electrically connected in a normal current path between said first electrode and said connector through said fuse, said fusible element being configured to interrupt said normal current path upon the occurrence of an over current condition in said fuse;

    said first and second electrodes being configured to support an electrical arc thereacross following the occurrence of said over current condition; and

    electromagnetic means for rotating said electrical arc about at least one of said electrodes to assist in extinguishing said electrical arc, said electromagnetic means being disposed in the current path formed when said electrical arc is supported between said first and second electrodes.
