An electrode assembly for use in a polarographic cell for assay of glucose in solution, said assembly comprising a reference electrode and a sensor electrode having a laminated membrane covering the solution-contacting face of said sensor electrode,in which said laminated membrane comprisesan outer solution-contacting membrane from 1 to 20 μ
- m thick having a pore size of 10 to 125 Å
,an inner membrane adjacent the face of said sensor electrode from 2 to 4 μ
m thick, andan adhesive glucose oxidase layer between said membranes holding them together,said inner membrane having a permeability sufficiently great to ensure passage of hydrogen peroxide from said glucose oxidase layer to the face of said sensor electrode.

Abstract
An electrode assembly for polarographic assay of glucose in solution having a laminated membrane, the outer membrane being from 1 to 20 μm thick and having a pore size of 10 to 125 Å, the inner membrane having a thickness of 2 to 4 μm, and bonded to the outer membrane with immobilized glucose oxidase. Rapid assays are carried out by measuring the current difference before equilibrium is attained and at least 5 seconds after initial contact of sample with the outer membrane.
